The word-lists for Starspell 2.4 are in three parts - the set of words for the Main Starspell course, the set of words for the Onset & Rime section, and the set of words for the English primary schools' Literacy Hour. Click the links and use your internet viewer to save the word lists to file. The word lists may be copied for non-commercial use, but please acknowledge our copyright. Word lists The Main Starspell word-lists: The lists make a comprehensive approach to spelling. Phonic patterns are presented in a rational order. There are also many lists for each main school subject, and lists of words with interesting connections. Some 586 lists, over 4,300 words. The Onset & Rime lists: For beginning readers; lists show how sounds match word-parts ( e.g. the '..at' sound in cat, mat and bat). Around 70 lists of 2 or 3 words each. The Literacy Hour lists: English primary schools are expected to spend an hour each day on the development of literacy. There is a Framework for teaching, at text, sentence and word level (See the DFEE Website). Our lists are arranged to match and complement the word level work, term by term for each of the 6 years of the course. Some 533 lists with 3500 words. Sentences Every word in Starspell 2.4 has an associated sentence, spoken and written. At the earliest stages the sentences are intended to be heard rather than read, and the criterion for them is that they should be within the pupil's level of understanding rather than spelling. In this way Starspell is a resource for helping with reading as well as spelling.
